Text by Frederick Durand in collaboration with Dato' Richard Curtis
Description
A long-awaited reprint of this iconic work is now here!

This book, the first ever on historical maps of Malaya and Borneo, tells the story of discovery, exploration, political evolution, and progress in the region through more than 160 original maps from the collections of H.R.H. Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and Dato' Richard Curtis. These fascinating maps, dating from the 1500s to after Malaysia's formation in 1963, are reproduced in full colour with captions which highlight key features and provide insights into their creators and the maps' context.

The presentation of the collections is preceded by an authoritative text on the mapping of Malaya and Borneo over the last 1,800 years. This text explains the quest for and importance of accurate maps; illustrates how maps showcased the changing economic, cultural, and political dynamics within Malaya and Borneo; and describes the evolution of mapping techniques as well as providing insights into the work of and challenges faced by leading cartographers.
